Forest Goblin
The woodland is already occupied. A small figure among the roots may be watching the path just as carefully as you are.
Open field notes
- Where to look
- Woodland margins, roots and roadside cover. Foxwood’s peaceful goblins are different company from the armed goblins farther along the road.
- Habits & encounters
- Disposition matters. Some keep to themselves; hostile goblins farther out may close with an axe or loose arrows from cover.
Before deciding what a creature wants, notice what it is doing.
Look closely at the plate: worn cloth, a scarf, bare feet and a world of useful plants.

The woodland larder
A witch’s work begins at ground level. The things gathered beneath the trees become the preparations that carry you farther.
Open field notes
- Where to look
- The forest floor and the edges of the winding path.
- Habits & encounters
- Gather supplies as you explore. Your Grimoire describes the components a spell needs; a raccoon familiar can help search for them.
An ordinary-looking verge can be a very useful place to stop.
These are fictional game ingredients and an illustrative botanical plate, not a real-world foraging guide.

Hester
Before the great adventures come the little errands. Hester makes a beginning feel possible: a few supplies, a useful lesson, and a reason to set off.
Open field notes
- Where to look
- Foxwood, at the beginning of your journey.
- Habits & encounters
- Her introductory errands teach gathering, preparation and helping a neighbor. Woodland shops give your collected finds another use.
The first kind face is often the one you remember on the longest road.
The original illustration names her Hester Rowan; in the current journey she is Hester, the Hearth Witch.
Examine the illustration ↗Study IV · Companions & curious company
The Raven Familiar
A black shape overhead, a small hop beside the path. Familiar magic brings company with its own business to attend to.
Open field notes
- Where to look
- Beside a witch who has learned Summon Familiar. Professor Crumb’s picnic in the Winding Reach offers an early lesson.
- Habits & encounters
- A summoned raven can gather and defend against active threats. Only one familiar travels with you at a time; each kind offers a different sort of help.
A little assistance can make room for a great deal of curiosity.
Professor Crumb is a woodland character; the summoned Raven Familiar is your magical companion.
Examine the illustration ↗Study V · An unusually large inhabitant
The Wolpertinger
Antlers above long ears. A hare’s powerful hind feet. Broad, barred wings. Some specimens require a little more distance than others.
Open field notes
- Where to look
- A woodland glade beyond the thaw, in later country.
- Habits & encounters
- A charge closes the distance; icy breath can stop an escape. A crown of living thorns can close around the clearing.
Sometimes the cleverest spell is the one that gets you out.
The illustration is a creature concept study. Meet its living counterpart well prepared.
Field note No. 01 ·
On the usefulness
of small company.
A raccoon familiar takes an interest in the ingredients around a woodland cottage. Watch the little pauses, the searching, and the return to the witch: the road needn’t be a solitary one.
This six-second observation is taken from our September gameplay trailer. The familiar helps gather components and defends itself when attacked.
